So now i understand when people say they can understand a language, but can’t speak it. I’m pretty proud to say that after a week and a half of being in Naples, Italy… i can most of the times figure out the topic of conversation… and usually i can understand the back and forth conversation. So that’s pretty cool considering i knew zero Italian. I took Spanish in high school but pretty much didn’t retain anything.
Everywhere we go, everyone is speaking Italian. A few friends can speak some English and it is nice to be able to converse because often i am sitting back trying to understand. Enzo plays translator often, but is doing so less and less because i’m understanding now!
Sometimes, depending on what we are doing, days can be exhausting from trying to comprehend, learn, translate, and speak. But I am excited to be learning and i really do think that after 3 months of being here i should be able to carry on day to day conversation. I look forward to that so much so that I can learn more about the people i’m meeting and the places i’m seeing.
It’s been confirmed that we are checking out Calabria this weekend with some friends!!! YIPPEEEE. The weather looks to be partly cloudy and low 70s. Tis ok with me. Will be nice to be outside all weekend enjoying the sights and sounds of beach and mountains minus a ton of people because its so early in the season. :)
